May 1st, 2008 - Ohio Center
for Broadcasting students and instructor, Nikk Sutton (below) participated in the 2008
College Movie Festival. The event gave
local colleges the opportunity to take part and develop teams which consisted
of producer, director, writer, director of photography, location sound
engineer, editor, graphic artist, animator and post sound design. All team
members must be enrolled in participating College. Other schools which participated were:
1. Brown Mackie
College 2. Cincinnati State 3. Northern Kentucky Univ.
4. University of Cincinnati—Clermont
Campus 5. University of Cincinnati 6. Xavier University
The resulting movies were 6 minutes or less in
length and the genres for 2008 were:
* Buddy Film * Romantic Comedy * Thrilled/Horror * Mystery * Fantasy * Super Hero * Film Noir * Mockumentary *Action Adventure
Genres were
selected on March 20 and OCB pulled Romantic Comedy. The OCB Team consisted of 27 students
comprised of September Afternoon, November Days, November Nights and March Day
classes.
Movies were
judged by professional judges and awards were announced on Sunday, April 27 at
7:00 p.m.
Ohio Center for Broadcasting was awarded the Judges Award – which is the 1st place
award as well as the Pre Production
award which recognizes the team as being best prepared among outstanding

April 26, 2008 - Courtis
Fuller, Reporter and Weekend News Anchor for WLWT Channel 5 shared information
about his background, first job and preparation to enter in the Broadcast
industry to new and continuing students.
He discussed the difference between ego and being a jerk; growth of the
broadcast industry over the last 20 years, the importance of checking and
knowing your sources and always be prepared to adjust to CHANGE.
Courtis
Fuller is a familiar face to Cincinnati
television viewers. The Broadcast Hall of Fame once selected Courtis as, "Cincinnati's Favorite TV
Personality" and it's easy to understand how he earned the title. The
veteran newsman has worked tirelessly as a volunteer in numerous tri-state
communities after joining WLWT-TV.
His career
in communications began nearly 25 years ago. Courtis has received awards for
his excellence in journalism from the National Academy of Arts and Sciences,
the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press, United
Press International, the Orlando Press Club, the Cleveland Press Club and the
National Association of Black Journalists. Courtis is one of the first
journalists inducted into the Central Florida Association of Black Journalists
and Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He is also the recipient of the Mayor's Seal of
the City of Cincinnati Award
and APPLAUSE Magazine's IMAGEMAKER in Communications.
Consistently,
Courtis has shown his leadership and commitment. He issued a proposal to
Cincinnati City Council that led to an inner city street being renamed in honor
of high school honor student Derrick Turnbow, who was accidentally shot and
killed. He showed that leadership and commitment when he led an effort to have
the City of Cincinnati
and the Cincinnati Reds honor the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's
entrance into Major League Baseball. He also conceived and produced an
eight-day Cincinnati
jazz and heritage festival
Currently
he is a member of the Greater Cincinnati Tall Stacks Commission, the Cincinnati
Symphony Orchestra Board of Trustees and the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation.
He is a former member of the U.S. Department of Education's Back-to-School
National Advisory Board; past Board member of the Tri-State American Federation
of Television and Radio Artists; Past Regional Director/ National Board member
for the National Association of Black Journalists.
Courtis
says he's glad be back home at Channel 5.
