May 19th, 2008 - Chicago Bandits Women’s Pro Softball and Illinois Center for Broadcasting partner to air live games via internet and MLB.com
The Chicago Bandits – the professional women’s soft ball team located in the Chicago area, featuring Olympic Gold Medalist star pitcher Jenny Finch - is going to televise the team’s 28 home games over the internet this year and 17 Illinois Center for Broadcasting students have been chosen to crew the games. These students will write, produce and direct ALL 28 games and will also, write, produce direct and HOST two weekly recap shows. The games will be carried on the Bandit’s web site and also on the Major League Baseball website. This is a tremendous opportunity for ICB students interested in television because it will give them a thorough grounding in the producing of live television, experience that will immediately translate into value in an employer’s mind when he/she is looking for someone to fill a TV production job.
James Urban, owner and President of The Softball Channel (The Softball Channel.com) will be the Executive Producer of the games. He owns a video production company in the area and is purchasing all the equipment necessary to broadcast the games.
Bill Conroy, owner of the Bandits, has made a major investment in broadcast equipment and each of these games will be a 5-camera undertaking. Conroy believes that televising what he calls 'small sports’ over the internet is the wave of the future for sporting events that haven’t the audience draw of major league baseball. These games can be produced and televised on the internet for a fraction of the cost charged by the networks or cable and – this is most important – develop a national following of those interested in women’s fast pitch softball.
This season the Bandits move to Elgin (they had been in Lyle playing at St. Benedictine) and will play their games at Judson University.

April 18th, 2008 – What happens in Vegas DOESN’T stay in Vegas.
When you’re talking about attending the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) in Las Vegas, you’re talking about hundreds of contacts for jobs in the industry. That’s why the Ohio/Illinois Center for Broadcasting schools (with locations in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Denver) sent the school’s president, Bob Mills and their placement directors.
From April 14th to the 18th, National Placement Director Gary James and Placement Directors John Wassel and Mark Lillie met with over 200 new contacts, cultivating new leads that will turn into jobs for recent graduates. The schools offer graduate placement assistance to all students who have completed the program.
Some of the highlights included meeting with Randy Michaels, the Executive VP of Tribune Television and Interactive Media. The Tribune owns and/or operates stations in 48 markets and will be adding another 35 in the near future. Some of the properties they own, WGN – Chicago, CLTV – Chicago, KWGN – Denver, KTLA-Los Angeles, and soon WJW – Cleveland.
They talked with Randy about assisting with internships at stations in our area markets as well as hiring grads and introducing the placement directors to the hiring managers in other markets.
Gary James notes, “One common problem we heard from many small market managers – was that they have difficulty getting people to move to places like Wadena, Minnesota (Pop. 4100), or Ukiah, California (Pop. 14,000). We assured these managers, that we have graduates that are willing to relocate for an opportunity in a small market.”
There are a lot of opportunities out there for the graduates of the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting. Now it’s up to the students to take advantage of all the resources offered.

US’s FIRST SPANISH-SPEAKING BROADCAST MEDIA TRAINING PROGRAM IS BEING LAUNCHED.
October 19, 2007- Denver, Colorado: The Ohio and Illinois
Centers for Broadcasting today announced plans to start the United States’ first
broadcasting training program dedicated to Spanish-speaking Americans. As part
of the program plans, the school has launched
www.mediosuno.com, a comprehensive website dedicated to the School’s Hispanic
Media Broadcasting Training Program. The School has selected its Denver, Colorado
campus for program launch, due to Metro Denver’s large, dynamic, and growing
Hispanic population. The inaugural classes will start on November 26th and November
27th at the Lakewood, Colorado campus of the Ohio Center for Broadcasting, and
these classes are expected to fill in rapid fashion.
A shortage of well-trained staff exists in the broadcasting industry, and this
shortage is most evident in Spanish-speaking media outlets, where it is rare
to find a Spanish speaking job candidate with the skills required for a position
at television and radio stations. Rodolpho Cardenas, Senior Anchor/Producer
for Univision Colorado states, “Our industry desperately needs well trained
Spanish-speaking broadcasters. It is difficult for broadcasting companies to
find the right people, to the point that sometimes it is necessary to bring
them from different countries in Latin America.” Mr. Cardenas continued, “To
have a broadcasting program entirely in Spanish is a dream come true for thousands
of Spanish speaking students and young adults. Such a program will offer many
Hispanic students the opportunity to get a career, to develop their creativity,
to be confident and to succeed in our very competitive society. It opens the
doors to a world of opportunities.”
The Hispanic Media Broadcasting Training Program is part of the nationally
accredited Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting, which also has campuses
in Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Denver, and Admissions Offices
in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The schools provide all the skills necessary
for a career in radio and television. At the broadcasting centers students develop
expertise in all aspects of broadcasting (in front of the camera/microphone
or behind the scenes in video or audio production) while learning from industry
professionals on a daily basis. For further information about the Hispanic Media
Broadcasting Training Program, go to: www.mediosuno.com,
