Chicago Campus Updates Feb 2016

Admissions

The Admissions team has experienced some growth in the past few weeks. The team now consists of Paige Tobin and Tinka Randle, the Admissions Coordinators, and Jamie Delano, the Admissions Outreach Coordinator. We have been working with the new “Media Sales and Marketing”, which is a 6 month advanced program that focuses on sales and marketing for the media industry and our “Radio and Television Broadcasting” classes who started in January and February – we are so excited to welcome those students to the Illinois Media School family!

On January 26, we also hosted Anthony Herron at the State St. campus to speak to current and prospective students about his extensive experience with sports broadcasting and communications. It was a fantastic evening, and we look forward to creating many more memorable events for students on campus. As we move into spring, we are excited for future “Radio and Television Broadcasting” classes, and our next “Sports Broadcasting” class, to begin.

EDUCATION

On February 12, we conducted our graduation for April Nights 2014 & June Days 2014 classes from the University Center at 520 S. State Street. We recently launched a Sales and Marketing emphasis program, giving students more focused instruction on such an integral part of broadcasting. Education also welcomed two new teachers, Noel Montenegro, a videographer from NBC News and Danny Zederman, executive producer of The Carmen & Jurko Show at ESPN Radio.

Two classes, April Nights and June Days graduated from the program on February 12. The ceremony was held at the facility of our neighbors University Center on State Street. Media Consultant and Travel Blogger Lisa Lubin, and Irit Nayden of ABC 7 were two guest speakers who visited the Chicago Campus to share their experiences and advice with students. Students were pleased to gain further advice and the opportunity to expand their broadcasting desires. Our most recent Student Showcase, with over 10 submissions, was well attended by students, who took that time to network across cohorts and share ideas.

CAREER SERVICES

Greetings from the Career Services office in Chicago. We have a couple of items that are designed to help you in your continued search for your first, and/or next position in the Broadcasting industry. The first item is to introduce, or re-introduce you, and welcome back to the Illinois Media School, Art Porter. Art is now back with us on a full time basis, to work with me in the Career Services office to help you with your search, answer any questions or concerns that you have with your career goals, and to assist Don Clark when he is out. As the National Career Services Director, Don will be working not only with you in Chicago, but also at the O’Hare campus, as well as our offices in Colorado, Florida, and Ohio. While Don is away, Art will be the person that you can meet with regarding Career Services. Art will also be reaching out to you to see if there is anything we can do to assist you. You can reach Art at [email protected].
