Meet a recent graduate of Illinois Media School, Deonte Jones-Ferrell, who is focused on becoming a sportscaster and sharpening his skills as a producer of 3 radio shows, co-host on 2, and co-host of a podcast. #DoWhatYouLove

Recently hired at iHeartMedia WVON 1690 AM as Board Operator, Deonte aspires to continue to grow a career and one day be a Sports Analyst for ESPN and to be the owner of his own brand.
When asked about his experience at Illinois Media School, Deonte eagerly offered this testimonial: “I enrolled in December of 2021 and my experience was amazing from the word GO! Despite having shoulder surgery in January, I was able to take advantage of every opportunity that came my way. I was able to gain a position at WVON 1690 AM as a producer/board operator, Co-host at ILLINATIONAL RADIO, Co-host at Chicagolandsports.com, and Stage Hand at Silver Screen Events.

I would like to thank Campus Director Tinka Randle for always being accessible and willing to listen; Ms. Clareese for making sure all my assignments and intern hours were up to par; Chuckyvision for all the extra help even on projects that weren’t his assignments (get the shots); Instructors Fred, Oz, and Chi-Blizz for pushing me to be great when it came to everything radio and audio; Ricky Rampage for laying the groundwork and giving me the motivation to get started; Admissions Representative Karli Rainey for being the glue and opening so many doors for me; and Eric A. for supporting every project I got involved with and giving me timely advice.
