Bob McElligott Visits Columbus Campus
On Thursday, May 23 legendary Columbus Blue Jackets radio network color commentator, Bob McElligott spent time with the evening students at the Columbus Campus of the Ohio Center for Broadcasting.
McElligott spoke about his journey starting out as a commentator for 10 years with the Syracuse Crunch minor league hockey team and how he utilized this position in the minor leagues to fine tune his delivery. While calling minor league hockey he also was calling MiLB baseball, high school football, and basketball. He also shared how this affected the lives of his family, who were very supportive of his career as he traveled the “minor league” circuit.
McElligott said he enjoys meeting future broadcasters and sharing his experiences and hearing their goals in broadcasting, whether it is sports, talk, or music. “To be a part of sharing the excitement of our industry with up and coming broadcasters is very rewarding and helps groom future broadcasters to take it to the next level.”
McElligott said that “Hard work, long hours, and in my case, lots of travel is the hardest part of the job, but calling each game is the reward for all you do.”
