ICB Graduate Dan Wolf’s Return to Campus
Dan Wolf was a guest speaker 5/23/13 at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting’s O’Hare Campus. Dan is a 2002 graduate of the broadcast media school and he is currently the Morning Show Producer for the Brant Miller Show on 94.7 WLS-FM at Cumulus Media Networks in Chicago, IL.
Dan was very excited to back on campus and to have a chance to see the staff and faculty and talk to the current students. He was impressed with the schools newest 15,000 square foot campus in O’Hare and the amount of digital equipment and studios available to the students for their hands-on training.
Dan was also excited to hear that the school’s curriculum now includes teaching web design, social media marketing, link journalism and website blogging in addition to the radio and TV broadcasting courses both on-air and behind the scenes.
During his presentation, Dan told the students that he has been employed in the broadcast industry for the past decade at 94.7 WLS-FM / WZZN-FM in Chicago. He’s worked on The Dick Biondi Show, The Greg Brown Show, The Dave Fogel Morning Show, and he is currently producing The Brant Miller Morning Show. Dan told the students that as a student himself he took advantage of everything the school had to offer such as hosting and producing his own show on the schools internet radio station and doing a radio internship in Chicago. He told the students they should treat their internship like it’s their first job in the industry and to network with as many broadcasters as possible both at the school and at their internships. Dan explained to the students the role of a morning show radio producer in a major market and what goes on behind the scenes when planning and producing a daily radio show.
Dan took time to meet with several students afterwards and he even accepted several resumes from students who are looking for internships and future job opportunities. The students said they got a lot of valuable information from Dan and were impressed that he has been working in the broadcasting industry ever since he graduated from the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.
Patrick Johnsen, Regional Director was excited to see one of his former students back on campus and giving back to the students and the school that helped him get his career started more than 10 years ago. Johnsen commented, “It’s always so rewarding to have our graduates come back to the school to share their experience and knowledge with the current students to help them be just as successful.” The staff, faculty and students all enjoyed Dan’s presentation and the success he has achieved so far in the broadcast industry.
