OMS Welcomes Ohio Senator Jerry Cirino (18th District)
|
|
#communityrelations
Ohio Media School Cleveland Campus was honored to welcome State Senator Jerry Cirino (R-OH) and Kent Trofholz, Executive Director of Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools, for a tour of our studios and classrooms and to meet both students and graduates of our multi-media programs.Recognizing that “one size does not fit all” in education, Senator Cirino inspired our students as he talked about their futures in media and the doors that will open to careers made possible with the skills acquired and the network forged with instructors, alumni and industry professionals who offer guidance at the campus level. The floor was then open to a very engaging student-led Q&A.
|
|
We appreciate Senator Jerry Cirino’s commitment to education, the support shown in getting to know Ohio Media School and our mission to best prepare our students to be candidates of choice at graduation. Our students learn hands-on from instructors who are themselves professionals in the industry, and our focus is to ensure they are best prepared to meet their career goals.

Radio Spotlight: Columbus Ohio Campus Score On Air Sports Radio Station
|
|
At each of our Beonair Network of Media School campuses, there are student-run internet radio stations with different formats including underground, take radio, and sports radio. This week we spotlight our Columbus Ohio Campus Score On Air Sports Radio station.
Score On Air is a local sports network run by students and graduates of the Ohio Media School. Not only do we bring you to live shows, but we also produce high-quality broadcasts involving sports in the Columbus area.
Score On Air is part of The Ohio Media School, Columbus campus. Students who attend the school can intern with the station and learn the basics of sports broadcasting, including camera operation, graphic production, on-air roles, and sports radio production. They produce live shows, make industry contacts, work among other local talents, and much more! After they complete the core program, they are invited to enroll in the Sports Emphasis graduate program, where they learn the behind-the-scenes element.
Do you think you have what it takes to be an On-Air personality? Set up a visit at the Ohio Media School in Columbus today by calling (614) 655-5250 or visiting the Ohio Media School by Clicking Here!
Pictured below are several of our students from Score On Air have been going out every Friday to film highlights from local High School Football Games. Under the direction of instructors Adam Dell and Todd Bradley, students get hands-on experience to work a Sony NX-100 in a Live environment. |
|
In addition to sports remotes, and live sports events there are plenty of additional opportunities for our students to have their own podcasts and sports talk shows. Checkout “Welcome To the Chatroom” one of several sports talk radio shows on ScoreOnAir.

How are you preparing for your interview?
Doing your homework before an interview will best prepare you for a great experience.
Understanding the company, the job description and how your qualifications are a fit will set a positive tone right from the start.
Before you head into that interview, whether in person, virtual or on the phone, make sure you check off the boxes below –
Know the company:
Have you gone to the website and read about the company? What are the core values? What makes them unique in the industry? What are they doing in the community they serve? Have you checked the company out on LinkedIn and other social platforms?
Have you read through the job description?
Be certain you have read the entire job description and understand why you would be a good fit. Do you have certain skills that will help you adapt to the systems that the employer is looking for? Can you speak confidently about the role and why you would be an asset to the employer? Do you understand the need the employer is trying to fill?
Are you qualified?
Be certain you are a good fit for the opportunity. Do you have the qualifications for the job, and if you aren’t completely qualified, are you prepared to talk about those things that are transferable skills? What is your previous experience that sets you up to be the right hire?
Practice = Success
Think through the answers you will offer in the interview and practice what you would like to say. Remember, the questions asked are always to see how you will fit the role. Prepare your answers, accordingly!
Be prepared with samples of your work, and a few mindful questions for the employer.
If you have done the homework, the interview should be a grand slam!
Wishing you continued success!
Best,
Lynda

OMS Career Services Creating New Opportunities for Employment, Collaboration and Internships
|
|
#CareerServices
Our Career Services Directors are constantly exploring new opportunities for our students and graduates, and video gaming is certainly a venue of great interest!Creating an additional pathway of entertainment and interaction, gaming also builds community, providing a virtual form of exchange and a medium of social media. Ohio Media School Career Services Director Houda Crable took a peak inside this year’s Cleveland Gaming Classic, exploring the many ways our students and graduates can pursue their passion, both in internship and employment.
While attending, Houda was happy to catch up with former Ohio Media School Instructor representing Hyland, the very talented Jeffrey Ford and Employer partner at Rock The House, Director of Entertainment Cory Enriquez, who was DJing the event!
It is incredible to note that the Cleveland Gaming Classic started more than a decade ago, with eight friends playing a Tecmo Bowl Tournament in someone’s basement. It has grown into a weekend convention drawing gamers from at least ten states to the IX Center in Northeast Ohio.

There is always opportunity if you take the time to look around and put yourself out there. Houda said, “It was great to be part of the excitement! I loved seeing some familiar faces and networking with new people. Indie software companies were looking to grow their brand and established names by interviewing or engaging gamers and attendees.
“For the gamers, it was cool seeing the various free play opportunities: a wall of pinball machines, a room of arcade games, two meeting rooms of retro games, several rooms for various tournaments, and even games at vendor tables. An exciting category that intrigues many of our students and graduates, I will bring new contacts back to campus and will continue connecting our graduates to opportunity.”
Houda’s counterpart at our Columbus Campus, Lee. A Wagner, Regional Director of Career Services had a busy week connecting with media industry employers. Lee had great campus visits by Cameron Vines and Brittany Weinberg from Creativity Linked Studios (Left Top), Daniel Ross from Nerdy Dan Films (Left bottom) and Reggie Crews from Crews Brothers Advertising Group. We thank all of our amazing employers for their time and commitment to our graduates.
