The Beonair Network of Media Schools, which includes Ohio Media School, Illinois Media School, Colorado Media School, and Miami Media School, invites you to take a look inside our week as we showcase the many great activities, achievements, and accomplishments of our students, alumni, and community partners across our seven campuses.
“My opportunities started with a phone call from Ohio Media School Career Services and I am extremely thankful for that. I’m still on my way up and have more to learn, but I only got my start thanks to an internship through Career Services.”
The Beonair Network of Media Schools is extremely proud of our mission to provide ambitious students with hands on training, excellence in education and meaningful internship experience that will best prepare them to achieve their goals at graduation.
We take pride in spotlighting the many accomplishments of our graduates, and today’s story focuses on Duke Antczak, who at 20 years of age, is co-founder of a community-centered production company and the tech director for a local sports production team. This multi-talented grad is building his legacy through determination and excellence in networking.
Passionate about video and TV production and with a dream to one day be a NASCAR play-by-play announcer, Duke was adjusting to life after high school and some difficult personal challenges. His mom encouraged him to look at Ohio Media School (OMS) as an alternate path to college.
On his first day at OMS, he met veteran on-air personality Don “Action” Jackson. Star-struck and excited, he knew he was exactly where he needed to be.
Internship, a big part of the program, was very important to Duke’s professional development. Already hosting a radio show about NASCAR in the OMS sports studio, Duke also landed a production internship with a local senior center. Organized by Senior Center Manager Cheryl Shaver and JoAnn Larsen, a veteran TV Producer with 40+ years at WOIO 19 in Cleveland, Duke joined the production crew. Once graduated he was hired on and shortly after, the three decided to level up their project and create their own production company. Working with various partners in the senior market and producing video content with sponsorships and partnerships that continue to build on their success.
JoAnn and Cheryl introduced Duke to Tom Hlavin, Founder of Simply Virtual, Inc., a nonprofit that provides tablets and training on how to use them for seniors in low-income housing. Also the race director at a local kart racing track, Duke has become the Head Flagman at the track.
Most recently Duke gained another opportunity through Career Services Director Houda Crable. Knowing his level of production skills, Houda connected Duke to SLA Video Productions, where he is now producing live shows as Technical Director at OSN. Owner and the voice of OSN, Kyle Goodwin, recently signed a contract with Akron City FC, a new soccer club in Akron that plays in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). With additional opportunities under negotiation, Duke is very excited about his future with OSN.
20 years old and just scratching the surface, Duke is fast becoming a Rising Star. Please join us in wishing Duke continued success!

Inspired by his dad, who owned a live event company, Justin Rothman gained a lot of experience working in the family business. Still wanting to do something on his own, after graduating HS, Justin’s mom, who worked at Kendall College of Art and Design, encouraged him to enroll in Culinary School. He found he had a lot of talent and went on to grow a successful career as an owner/operator of over 30 restaurants. But the hours were long and Justin felt the need for a career pivot. Experienced in live events, he decided to enroll at Illinois Media School.
With a passion for video and sports broadcasting, Justin learned a wide range of skills, hands-on, and also got to host his own radio show. Each day presented something new and with instructors who were industry pros, Justin also learned the importance of networking.
Living in the city, Justin had a 3-hour commute to the O’Hare campus. Additionally, he had a one-year-old son, so he had to work while attending classes. He juggled his schedule because graduation was his goal. With the support of his instructors, he found success.
Combing his excellent soft skills from the food industry, experience from the family biz, and technical skills acquired at Illinois Media School, Justin was focused on finding an industry job.
Ironically, he took a restaurant job until he landed his first opportunity with Encore (formally PSAV). He did such a great job as an Event Technologist, that he was in high demand across properties. He learned a lot on the job, leveling up to Audio Video Engineer Tech Lead, working at one of the largest hotel meeting spaces in the city, the Hyatt Regency.
Opportunity also opened up as a Producer and On-Air host, and Justin began to grow his resume. He worked as a Radio Host at WVOG Media Chicago and Station Manager and Show Producer at WCGO 1590AM.
This year, Justin is realizing his dream as he landed a job at ESPN Chicago as Board Operator/Producer. Hired to produce the Chicago White Sox games, he is now producing a wide range of shows across all shifts and loves where he has landed.
In addition, Justin is working as an Audio Video Producer/Engineer for Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and Technical Director at the City of Evanston.
His son is now a young teenager, and Justin hopes he inspires him. A kind and very entertaining guy, Justin Rothman has landed in an industry that is a perfect fit!
We are excited for Justin to reconnect with the campus to mentor current students and join our Speaker Series.
Our Beonair Network of Media Schools Alumni are doing great things and we are proud of the legacies they continue to grow. Passionate and wanting to give back to the next generation of media makers, Justin shares this advice, “Never give up. Have a goal, shoot for it, and don’t let anyone or anything lead you astray.” Great advice from this industry pro!

David Caravea was seeking a new direction in his life and decided to enroll at Colorado Media School, where he could gain technical training in media. Encouraged by his older sister who was very much aware of David’s interest in expressing his unique talents and style, David started school in April of 2021.
Very comfortable in the studios and really connecting with the hands-on approach to learning, David discovered he was really quite talented in camera operation and that he enjoyed editing his work, as well. As a graduate, David is using his skills to become a TikTok and Twitch Influencer.
His advice to fellow graduates and students is, “Believe in yourself and avoid self-doubt. Push forward and give yourself credit for your accomplishments. Most importantly, make it happen!”
Please join Colorado Media School in wishing David continued success as he grows his following. You can find David on Twitch at @David_imagiine.
We invite you to get to know us. Brian Wherry chose to enroll at Ohio Media School because he wanted to challenge himself and going back to school had long been on his mind. He called admissions and was very excited to enroll the same day. With the opportunity for hands-on learning specifically focused on his passion for media, he knew he made an excellent decision that would best set him up for industry success.
With a fascination for “behind the scenes,” Brian especially enjoyed working production and excelled at camera production, video editing, after effects, and the use of the green screen. He gained knowledge and technical skills that allowed him to understand graphics in motion pictures and how the imagery comes to life.
Since graduating, Brian has worked alongside classmate and significant other, Nakia Walker, as co-producer. Together they direct, produce and edit a show that features high-profile guests that have included Queen Naija, Marsha Ambrosius, Eric Nolan of the O’Jays, and more. In addition, Brian has launched his own production company, Stream Dreams Productions, which is expanding and also generating success.
Brian’s long-term goal is to open a studio and start a film institute for aspiring broadcasters, where he can teach the skills of the trade and share his experience in producing and the art of writing short films.
Brian’s advice to aspiring students would be “Take your own advice and block out all the outside noise. When you set your mind and heart on what you want to do with your life, believe in yourself because manifestation is real.
“Thoughts are powerful, and whatever you want to happen, speak it and it shall be.”
Please join us in congratulating Ohio Media School 2017 Alumnus, Brian Wherry on his accomplishments and in wishing him continued industry success!
Meet Miami Media School 2021 alumnus Phanuel St vil, Raggae Dancehall Pop Artist, Producer, Director, and Entertainer. Phanuel enrolled in school to learn about audiovisual, social media, and video graphics to level up his business, Zoelion Productions.

We’ve created a short and simple guide that breaks down how to get into video editing, so you can start honing your skills as soon as possible.
“The Accreditation Workshop provides an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the Commission’s standards and procedures, as well as to share experiences with other schools in the accreditation process.”

#48HourfilmProject
Last weekend (July 8-10) Ohio Media School Cincinnati Campus participated in the 48 Hour Film Project. This is an opportunity for filmmakers to write, shoot, edit and deliver a finished film, all in 48 hours or less 📹🎞⏰
Our students, under the team name of ‘Cin City’ competed against professionals, amateurs, and everyone in between.
Elements were chosen Friday at 7:00pm. Character: Joseph or Jo Beth Ledbetter, Prop: Tweezers, Occupation: Inspector, Line of Dialogue: “Who wants to know?”.
The genre was then chosen which included Film de Femme or Mistaken Identity.
This is a difficult project, even for professional filmmakers, yet our students pulled it off. Headed up by Film Emphasis Program Director Tony Deemer, the team consisted of students and a few Film Emphasis graduates, as well. While allotted 48 Hours, the Cincinnati crew completed under budget.
This was an incredible opportunity for our Radio & TV Broadcasting students as it provided a real-time experience in film production. The films were screened to the public in Cincinnati on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the Esquire Theater.
The award show will be held on July 22nd at 6:00 pm also at the Esquire Theater where we are nominated for two categories: Best Movie Poster and Best Use of Prop.
Our students are encouraged to participate in these competitions to gain hands-on experience and the chance to be recognized early on in their careers. Additionally, this is an excellent opportunity to network, which is so crucial in today’s employment landscape.
Please join the Beonair Network of Media Schools, which includes Ohio Media School, in congratulating our ‘Cin City’ nominees! We are inspired by their work!
