R. K. Meador at ICB Chicago!
Rashaan K. Meador, the Coordinator of Digital Media Studies for the Chicago Public Schools visited the students at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting on Wed. Sept. 16 to discuss his career as a journalist writing about hip-hop and as a producer for TNT’s “Listen –Up with Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.”
R.K. prior to his TV work and even after performing assignments for BET and TNT worked as a freelance writer covering hip-hop, something he was and still is passionate about.
In the course of his work, he met various artists including: Rick Ross, T.I., Lil Wayne, Ludacris, 50 Cent, 2 Chainz, and GZ, He wrote articles for numerous publications including websites: such as allhiphop.com, ihiphop.com and Datpiff.com.
His media work lead to special event production that included corporate parties as well as a job as a promotion manager for “Monster Truck” competitions in venues all over
North America.
During the course of his presentation, R.K. stressed the importance of internships, whether one gets paid or not, because that’s the best way to learn the business – while working with media professionals.
R.K. now works with students at CPS high schools that train and teach digital media studies. He also has agreed to be a member of the Professional Advisory Committee for the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.
