Radio Promotions Training
When attending special events, you might find yourself gravitating towards the music playing from booths of your favorite radio stations. The radio representatives always look like they are having a blast getting paid to listen to music and interact with the public. Maybe you enjoy talking about music, have a passion for promoting local companies, and want a career where no two days are the same.
If these statements apply to you, consider the possibility of combining these ideas. Here at the schools of the Be On Air Network, our Radio Promotion program can help provide you with the tools you need to succeed in this career field.
Radio promotion careers are generally divided into two main paths, external and internal. Some people end up performing both throughout their career. Here is some information to help you consider which path would be more suitable for you.
What is Out-of-Station Radio Promotion?
External radio promotions careers are ideal for those who have a positive outlook and demeanor and can project this to others. You will most likely be expected to attend various events and engage with the public, often in a playful and appropriate way. Getting an education from a media school in a field such as marketing, business or communications can be helpful, but not required.
A job in radio promotions is a highly visible position as you are not only heard but seen by the public. Hours vary, and you may be expected to work on weekends. Radio promoters frequently appear at concerts, music festivals, sporting events, parades, and other local functions.
People may begin their careers with radio promotions of external nature. Once they have gained training and experience, they may move towards a more internal role in this field. However, some people enjoy the social nature of external promotions and choose to make a long career out of it.
 What is Internal Radio Promotion?
Internal radio promotion entails working within a radio station on promotional communications about that station. This job encompasses many different responsibilities, including promotions, sales, and marketing. An educational background in editing digital audio files is required for this position, as well as experience or a degree in business, marketing, journalism or communications.
Innovation is highly prized in this line of work because it is what will set you apart from others. Duties will vary from station to station, depending upon the size of the station and staff; strong computer and communication skills; and a strong work ethic are needed in any radio station. This job requires knowledge of the demographic.
