Sheera Poelman Named 2013 ACCSC “Graduate of the Year”
Sheera Poelman, a graduate of the Colorado Media School and evening news anchor for KGWN NewsChannel 5, has been chosen as the national 2013 “Graduate of the Year” by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools & Colleges (ACCSC). Her selection came from among 1000 nominees nationally, representing more than 250,000 graduates from over 700 post-secondary institutions accredited by the ACCSC.
Sheera Poelman is being honored this afternoon (September 12th) at a special Graduate of the Year ceremony at the ACCSC’s national conference in Washington, D.C.
Poelman’s award represents top national recognition in back-to-back years for OCB graduates. Last year’s 2012 ACCSC Graduate of the Year was also a graduate of the Ohio Center for Broadcasting’s highly regarded Radio and Television program.
A Denver native, Sheera Poelman enrolled in the Radio and Television program at the Ohio Center for Broadcasting’s Colorado campus and graduated at the top of her class in 2011. Shortly after graduation, Sheera went to work for the Denver Public School system as an on-camera reporter and producer, where she interviewed many of Colorado top elected officials. She also covered two official visits to Colorado by President Barack Obama for Denver’s Channel 22 as a credentialed member of the White House press corps. Sheera was part of the broadcast PR team at the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis, fulfilling a lifelong dream to work in both broadcasting and sports. Poelman returned to Radio Row the following year as a producer, in advance of the NFL’s 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Today, Sheera Poelman is evening news anchor for KGWN-TV, CBS NewsChannel 5 in Cheyenne. She reports and anchors a nightly newscast for Wyoming, and produces a separate Colorado newscast for the station’s Northern Colorado CBS affiliate. She continues to support and mentor students in the Colorado media program.
