The Biggest Stars from the Buckeye State
Ohio’s stars shine as brightly in Hollywood as they do in space. Ohio film schools can rightfully boast that some of the biggest names in the film industry honed their skills here long before they headed west. These stars include world famous names you are certain to recognize.
Steven Spielberg – Granted, his most famous character was named after nearby Indiana, Spielberg got his first big break in 1946 when he made his grand entrance within a Cincinnati hospital.
Halle Berry – The daughter of a nurse and a hospital attendant, Berry was in good hands when she born in a Cleveland hospital. Representing Ohio in numerous beauty pageants, her gracefulness and charm led to Hollywood fame and international glory.
Drew Carey – Drew Carey put Cleveland on the map. His witty humor and gentle demeanor shone a light on the true nature of an Ohio lifestyle. Like many graduates of Ohio Film Schools, Carey also served his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corp. It was a formative experience that along with a couple of tattoos, also led to him adopting his trademark haircut.
Sarah Jessica Parker – Long before she was pining over sex in the big city, she was just a small town girl enjoying the simple life in Nelsonville. As she grew up, her mother’s east coast heritage became ever more appealing until at the tender age of 11, when she made her Broadway debut.
Bart Simpson – Well, his voice at least. You might have a cow when you find out that Bart’s voice is actually that of Nancy Cartwright. Born in Dayton, she moved to Hollywood when she was 21. Since then, her most famous role is that of a boy who has become one of the most beloved characters in TV history.
Katie Holmes – Joey cut her teeth on the mean streets of Toledo before she made the move to Los Angeles. The youngest of five children, she started acting in school plays before graduating and going to Columbia University.
Josh Radnor – Radnor began his search for a wife in good ole’ Bexley before attending school at Kenyon College where he earned a degree in Drama. From there, he attended one of the best films schools in America before making his move onto TV screens across the country.
Martin Sheen – Before he was called Mr. President on The West Wing, President Bartlett was called “son” by his mom and dad in Dayton, Ohio. With many legendary film roles under his belt, the Ohio roots of this venerated actor are evident in every one of his performances.
