Dennis Gambino- Associate Producer 670AM-The Score
The Illinois Center for Broadcasting (ICB) was pleased to have Dennis Gambino, Associate Producer of the “Mully & Hanley Morning Show” on 670 AM – The Score, as a guest speaker at the Chicago Campus.
Dennis Gambino started interning at 670 AM Radio in the summer of 2009, while still in college. After a year of internship, he was hired on a part-time basis to produce “Overnights with Les Grobstein.” This was in tandem with his on-going internship for “The Mully & Hanley Morning Show.” That meant that Dennis was literally working seven days a week while still going to school – talk about sacrifice! Following the departure of the producer, Rock Mamola, who took an Assistant PD job in Tampa, Dennis Gambino was hired to be Mully & Hanley’s producer on a full-time basis.
According to Mr. Gambino, “The past three-and-a-half years of producing “Mully & Hanley” has been a wonderful experience and an opportunity to work with some very talented pros.”
Dennis also talked about the importance of “Never saying “NO.” He explained to the students that if you’re really good as an intern, you’re willing to accept any challenge, any shift, any assignment and then some to get noticed by the staff. Should an employment opportunity come up, the management will query the staff on whether or not there might be an intern worthy of being hired, even if it is only part time. That’s what happened to Dennis and he noted to the ICB students that unfortunately there are too many interns who lose opportunities because they’re not willing to go the extra mile to stand-out.
Dennis and his colleagues have seen great success in the ratings for their morning show which was named The #11 Sports Show in “Talkers Magazine 2013 Heavy Hundred.” Dennis is in a job that he truly loves and a career that has endless possibilities.
ICB thanks Dennis for sharing his time insight regarding sports talk radio with our students.
