Back in 1994, I saw a commercial on TV for the Ohio Center for Broadcasting. I had always enjoyed entertaining and thought it would be interesting to check it out. I called and made an appointment to take a tour of the campus.

Less than a year later, I graduated and landed my first job in radio for American Radio Systems on the air. Over the months and years ahead, I worked for Regent Broadcasting, Jacor and Clear Channel. 18 years later I’m still in the industry and have never looked back. At this time I am on the air with Cumulus Cincinnati working on the air for WARM 98 and 103.5 WGRR. I’ve also been in television on our local FOX affiliate here in Cincinnati on a local talk/variety show called Cincinnality, and landed a role in a Disney movie you may have seen called Secretariat.

My dream did come true and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else but broadcasting. There are so many different avenues in the broadcasting industry that you can take. From being on-air, sales, promotions, voice overs, production, camera operation, directing and the career choices go on and on.

I also taught radio right here at the school I graduated from for 13 years and in 2010 was asked to become the Director of the school. I said yes because I believe in paying it forward. My career has been very rewarding and unlike other careers, I can honestly say there are no 2 days alike. To be honest, that’s the biggest reason I love what I do. The Ohio Center for Broadcasting taught me the skills, gave me the hands on training and helped me when I graduated; explore job opportunities with the Career Services Department.

If you’ve ever thought of being in broadcasting, you at least owe it to YOURSELF to check it out. It’s not for everybody, but it could be for YOU!
