Behind the Mic: Anthony Angiulo’s Rise in Radio and Media Production

Anthony Angiulo’s journey from the Illinois Media School to a full-time role at 94.9 WDKB exemplifies the power of hands-on learning, industry connections, and a deep passion for media. Graduating in 2017, Anthony wasted no time diving into the fast-paced world of radio, video production, and live events. His career path has been nothing short of impressive.

“I chose this media school because it offered the perfect blend of hands-on learning, industry connections, and a curriculum that stays current with today’s fast-changing media landscape,” says Anthony.

“From day one, I was immersed in real-world projects that not only gave me technical skills but also helped me build the confidence to step into professional environments.”

Crafting Compelling Stories Across Platforms

Anthony’s experiences after graduation demonstrate just how valuable those early lessons were. From filming a Guinness World Record attempt to being part of a live broadcast for Trinity Broadcasting Network, his career has been filled with challenging, high-stakes projects. His skills in video production, audio editing, and live event coverage have been put to the test, allowing him to create content that captivates audiences.

One of the most memorable projects was producing the live broadcast of the Northern Illinois University (NIU) vs. Notre Dame football game—an unforgettable moment for both the station and local sports fans. “That experience taught me the importance of being prepared and staying calm under pressure,” says Anthony.

Today, as a Content Creator and On-Air Host at 94.9 WDKB, Anthony is responsible for managing media production and coordinating live events. His work has expanded to include his own business, AA Media Productions, where he provides video, audio, and event production services.

Building Connections and Mentorship in the Industry

One of the highlights of Anthony’s career has been the opportunity to collaborate with former instructor Peyton Adams. Now his on-air partner, Peyton played a role in shaping Anthony’s media education.

“It’s been incredible to work alongside someone who once helped me build my career,” says Anthony. “Our collaboration blends mentorship and real-time broadcasting. It’s a testament to the strength of the Illinois Media School network.”

Anthony’s professional journey also includes hosting a football podcast, Two Pup Conversion, which combines his love of sports with creative storytelling. It’s clear that for him, media isn’t just a job—it’s a passion that spans multiple platforms.

Advice for Future Media Professionals

For students preparing to graduate, Anthony has some key advice: “Fully immerse yourself in every learning opportunity. Seek internships, volunteer for projects, and take on roles that push you outside your comfort zone. Every experience helps you build skills and confidence that will set you apart.”

He also emphasizes the importance of building relationships.

“Connect with your instructors, classmates, and alumni early on. These connections can lead to mentorships and job opportunities that will last long after graduation.”

Looking Ahead

In the coming years, Anthony hopes to continue growing as a media professional.

“I want to continue developing my skills across radio, video production, and live events while taking on larger leadership roles,” he says. “Long-term, I aspire to mentor the next generation of media professionals and help shape the future of media by pushing boundaries with innovative, meaningful stories.”

His journey from student to content creator is a shining example of how passion, perseverance, and the right education can pave the way to success. Anthony is a proud graduate who continues to inspire others through his work and dedication to the media industry.

Anthony’s Final Words of Wisdom:
“The media field can be challenging, but dedication and hard work pay off. Stay open to opportunities, trust the process, and keep pushing forward. Every project you complete and every connection you make is a step closer to your goals.”
