When Spirit Airlines shut down, Dominic Henry-Gadson’s program at Miami Media School was put on hold. Here’s how the Doral team brought him back.

Dominic Henry-Gadson was well into his program at Miami Media School when the news broke: Spirit Airlines was closing. For Dominic, that wasn’t a headline. It was his job, his income, and, for a while, his ability to keep going to school.
“After the closure of Spirit Airlines, I faced unexpected challenges that temporarily impacted my ability to complete my program,” Dominic wrote in a public review shared this summer.
Plenty of students hit a pause like that and never make it back. The longer the gap, the harder the return. Dominic’s story went differently, and he’s clear about why.
Someone left the door open
“Edgar Garcia, Paty and Carmen at Miami Media School welcomed me back and gave me the opportunity to finish what I had started,” he wrote.
Edgar Garcia is a Broadcasting, Media and Marketing Instructor and Communications Lead at Miami Media School, and a working media professional with nearly four decades in communications. Paty and Carmen are part of the campus team students see every day. Between the three of them, Dominic found what he needed: a plan to re-enter, flexibility on the details, and people who kept checking in.
“Their understanding, flexibility, and commitment to student success made all the difference during a difficult transition in my life,” Dominic said. “The instructors and staff genuinely care about their students and go above and beyond to help them achieve their goals.”
Finishing what he started
Dominic completed his program requirements and, in his words, moved forward with confidence.
“Thanks to Miami Media School, I was able to continue my education, complete my requirements, and move forward with confidence. I am truly grateful for the encouragement, professionalism, and support I received throughout the process.”
Why this story matters to us
At Miami Media School, we talk a lot about hands-on training from day one and instructors who are actively working in media. Those things are real, and they matter. But Dominic’s story is about something else: a campus small enough to know your name and committed enough to hold your seat when life gets complicated.
“I highly recommend Miami Media School to anyone looking for a school that truly invests in the success of its students,” Dominic wrote.
Congratulations, Dominic. Thank you for letting us be part of your story. And to Edgar, Paty, and Carmen: this one is yours too.
