Alumni Spotlight: Grace Danlette Washington

As another year comes to a close, we celebrate the incredible journeys of our alumni who are making an impact in the media industry. Today, we shine the spotlight on Grace Danlette Washington, a 2022 graduate from our Ohio Media School- Columbus Campus and a 2024 Graduate of Miami Media School, whose passion for storytelling and community engagement is transforming lives.

From Student to Media Professional

Grace chose Ohio Media School for its hands-on, industry-focused approach and practical training that mirrors real-world media work. Already experienced in journalism and broadcast production, she sought a program that would strengthen her technical foundation and expand her knowledge in radio, television, and media production.

“I wanted a program that would help me grow professionally and give me the tools to succeed in media,” Grace shares.

Building a Career in Media

Today, Grace wears many hats in the media world:

  • Reporter & Broadcaster at Apex 1 Radio, where she hosts and produces Beyond the Headlines, a program dedicated to in-depth news analysis and community-centered storytelling.
  • Founder of Dlenz Media Network, offering media production services for nonprofits, small businesses, and community organizations.
  • Contributor to New Americans Magazine, covering stories that highlight immigrant communities and cultural impact.

Her work focuses on amplifying underrepresented voices, producing meaningful journalism, and creating opportunities for collaboration and mentorship.

Giving Back Through Education

Grace’s commitment to education led her back to Ohio Media School in 2022 as an Instructor Assistant, where she supported students in broadcast production and studio operations. This experience reinforced her dedication to mentorship and helping the next generation of media professionals thrive.

Career Goals

Grace’s vision is clear: “To build impactful, community-centered media platforms that amplify underrepresented voices and foster collaboration across radio, digital, and film media.”

Advice for Future Media Professionals

Grace encourages new students and graduates to:

  • Take full advantage of hands-on training.
  • Start building your portfolio early.
  • Apply your skills in real-world settings.
  • Stay curious and seek feedback.

“Real growth happens when you use what you learn outside the classroom and stay committed to your purpose.”
