Darvio Morrow’s Rise to National Prominence in Media

“Don’t give up. No matter what.” These words, spoken by Darvio “The Kingpin” Morrow himself, perfectly capture the unstoppable drive and passion that define his incredible career.

From his beginnings as a 16-year-old entrepreneur to becoming a trailblazing media executive, Darvio has not only built a thriving media empire but has also firmly established himself as a thought leader and community advocate. A proud graduate of Ohio Media School, Darvio exemplifies what it means to turn ambition into achievement.

Rising to National Prominence

At just 38 years old, Darvio has accomplished what few in his field have done. Today, he serves as the CEO of The First Class Broadcasting Corporation (FCB), an independent media powerhouse that spans broadcast radio, music, podcasting, and digital streaming. Under his leadership:

  • FCB Radio Network operates four digital streaming stations on iHeartRadio, including First Class Hip Hop, FCB Cool, FCB Soul, and FCB Faith.
  • FCB Podcast Network partners with major organizations like Ohio Media School to deliver quality content.
  • WOVU 95.9 FM thrives as an FCC-licensed public radio station under his direction, making him one of the youngest Black executives to hold such a title.

But Darvio’s visionary impact doesn’t stop there. By 22, he had already secured a major distribution deal with Sony Music for his record label, and in 2018, he released his own critically acclaimed album, The Journal.

Now, as a regular Opinion Contributor for Newsweek and a digital influencer with over 13.8 million views on X (formerly Twitter), Darvio is shaping national media conversations and championing independent Black media.

Empowering the Next Generation

Darvio’s leadership extends well beyond his professional achievements. His commitment to giving back is a hallmark of his career. Through his work with the Ohio Media School Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and the BeOnAir Podcast Network, Darvio helps create hands-on experiences and career opportunities for aspiring media professionals. His recent collaboration with Ohio Media School’s Audio Production program highlights his dedication to empowering others to build their dreams in the media industry.

“Darvio represents the very best of Ohio Media School,” says the team at Ohio Media School. “He’s not just leading in his field; he’s reaching back and lifting others along the way.”

A Legacy of Excellence and Resilience

Darvio has built a career rooted in grit, innovation, and a belief in the power of independent ownership. From his appearances in Newsweek, Complex, and The Source to his leadership in public radio and digital platforms, Darvio is proving that staying true to your vision pays off. His story is one of defying industry norms, leading with purpose, and inspiring others to aim higher.

To any aspiring professionals out there, take it from Darvio himself: “Don’t give up. No matter what.” His story is proof of what’s possible when you combine hard work, passion, and the courage to chart your own course.

Ohio Media School is proud to celebrate Darvio Morrow, and we look forward to seeing his continued success and impact on the media industry.
