“I have to thank Ángel [Angel Llamazares, Miami Campus Career Services Director], my career advisor at Miami Media School because he has constantly cared that I receive different offers of employment or learning to grow to the levels that I have always dreamed of. And just today, I just accepted a fantastic training session that can take me all the way to the football World Cup. I will always be eternally grateful to all my teachers and staff at MMS for all the unconditional support they have always given me. And it really was a blessing for me to have chosen this school among all the ones I had reviewed. Thank you, MMS”

“I really enjoyed Enoch’s Morgan’s podcast workshop today especially since i am wanting to start a podcast for my hometown Hamilton. I learned how to structure my podcast along with how to build my following for my podcast. This was a free event and to give his time like that made it even more enjoyable. Thanks Enoch!”

“I instantly fell in love with IMS the second I came in to check the place out and had an incredible time there when I enrolled. They provided a safe and creative space for those who want to learn all they can about the media world. I was instantly making commercials for TV and radio while also improving day by day with the strategies given to me by my teachers with little to no paper assignments. It feels like being thrown into the lions den with all the tools and knowledge on how to use them. Within the first week, I was giving a radio show after sending them my demo and got better every time I did my show and learned all i needed to know on how to set up a camera to record. Plus, after Graduating, I got a job as a Board Operator for a very famous Broadcasting Company (which houses one of the most famous stations like Power 92.3,Soul 106.3, Rejoice 102.3, and Power 106.3) after receiving help putting together my portfolio… thanks to my teacher Audio Production Instructor, Ben Anderson and Career Advisor Director, Dustin Lingemann. Definitely would recommend this school to anyone who wants to level up their skills in Media.”

A previous interview guest, Youn Pooda came in as well and was totally impressed. He loved the set up, and the professionalism of our students.“Another big shoutout to our students Angel Broadnax and Tenika Mebane whom I selected to do the interview and they did a fantastic job! Nick spearheaded the production. Our students, Anthony Riley assisted Nick, Shane Huffman, and Kayla Hoffman were on the cameras. MMS Students Enjoy Industry Field Trip To Circle House Studios!
Miami Media School students hit the jackpot this week with an exclusive invite to the music utopia of Miami – #CircleHouse studios – thanks to the charismatic Daniel Perez (@dannydoe24), our instructor and national social media coordinator. Our students got first-hand insight into the music industry from none other than the marketing guru and CEO of Circle House Studios, Abebe Lewis (@abebelewis), with a Q&A session that kept us riveted.
And the stories! We heard about how not just a few but several records were born at Circle House studios, including the hits by #KodakBlack, #ASVProcky, and #BustaRhymes. It was a real smorgasbord of information for anyone interested in the music industry. We couldn’t have asked for more – thank you, @abebemarketing and @missyanelis, for having us at Circle House Studios.

Meet Bryan Hyla: Emmy and Telly Award Winner and a 2006 Ohio Media School graduate. Over the past 16 years, he’s climbed the ranks from intern to Producer and Editor for Bally Sports Ohio – where he’s won two Emmy awards, two Telly awards, and over a dozen Emmy nominations!
Bryan’s success story began in high school, where he discovered his love for editing and shooting videos. But it wasn’t until he found Ohio Center for Broadcasting (OCB) that he could get hands-on experience and hone his skills. Building his career over the last 16 years, which takes him from Intern to Producer and Editor for Bally Sports Ohio | Bally Sports Great Lakes, it is with great pride that we share Bryan’s story:
“The path to my career began in high school, where I enjoyed editing and shooting videos for school activities. I knew that television production was what I wanted to do for my profession.
“I went to community college for two years and felt that the courses I was taking had nothing to do with television production. I knew I had to hone the skills I needed and start learning the ins and outs of television production.
“I found Ohio Center for Broadcasting (OCB) online and liked that they offered a one-year program that would help you find internships and teach you the skills you needed to start your career. I knew that if I got a chance to prove myself, I would outwork anyone else and learn the skills that would help me succeed.
“That’s what happened when I got my internship at Sports Time Ohio, which was a new network that was created by the Cleveland Indians in 2006.
“I was at the right place at the right time. They had a very small staff and sought bodies to help get the network going. I took full advantage of the opportunities that they provided me. I learned how to edit, shoot, and produce live television shows in my first year as an intern.
“I was hired as a freelance producer and editor upon my graduation from OCB. Over the last sixteen years of employment, I have won two Emmy awards and two Telly awards and have received over 12 Emmy Nominations.
“My words of advice would be you need to want it, and you need to be on time, be respectful, and learn your craft. The more you learn in the industry, the more you know, which opens up endless possibilities.
“In my opinion, my success wasn’t because I was the most talented editor or producer, but I outworked everyone with determination. I wanted to learn all I could. The more work you put in, the more you will succeed.”
A special thank you to Bryan for sharing his Alumni Story and great words of advice. I was touched by the pictures that included his beautiful family and colleagues and his true love and passion for his job with Bally Sports.
Ohio Media School is very proud of Bryan’s accomplishments. Please join us in congratulating Bryan and in wishing him continued success!
Meet Chris Glenn ‘07, graduate of Ohio Media School formally OCB (Ohio Center for Broadcasting). Owner of Showstarter Media LLC, Chris is also an award winning morning newscast Director/TD, a freelance videographer/technical director, video mixer, video engineer, and multi cam operator. With over 11 years of experience in the news industry, Chris has gone from board operator at 97.9 “the light” in Canton, to working as a director/technical director at News 13 Orlando to owner/operator of his own production company. How did it all begin?
Back in 2006, Chris was at a low point in life, lacking direction and working low-paying jobs with no real future in sight. He needed to pivot and felt there just had to be more. He heard a commercial for Ohio Media School Cleveland Campus and knew when he took his admissions tour that he had found his destiny. With his mom’s support (for which he will be forever grateful), he enrolled, crushed it, made some excellent friendships and contacts, and the rest, as they say, is history!Chris originally enrolled to follow his passion for radio, but when he entered the TV studio, that
changed everything. One of his favorite internships was with the Akron Aeros as Director, but he didn’t realize this was his true calling until several jobs later! (live and learn!)In a pretty quick time, Chris went from working in a potato chip factory to graduating from OCB with the most intern hours, while still working a full-time job. His lackluster life was about to change.Chris landed his first job, with radio station WTVY FM, as a production assistant in Dothan, Alabama. Within three months, he was directing. He then landed a Production Specialist job with News 13 Orlando where he gained experience in several areas, including directing, master control, editing, and audio. He leveled up to the full-time director, and 3 years later, he launched his own live video production business, Showstarter Media LLC!
Chris offers this advice to current students, “At some point, you, too, will have to ask yourself “is this it?”. When you do, think about what could be, and get yourself even more hyped up (I’m gonna learn to direct, I’m nervous, but imagine the POSSIBILITIES, let’s do this!) to approach what you want. Keep that childlike wonder, that hunger to learn, create goals, stay humble (we will never know everything), and take accountability.”
Chris lives by these words. He values integrity, accountability, and a commitment to excellence, and strives to embody these values in all of his work. We invite you to connect with Chris on LinkedIn to learn more about his production company, Showstarter Media LLC.
There are endless possibilities when you love what you do. Congratulations and continued success to Chris!
“I absolutely love where I am right now in my career, and being part of the community in this small town.”Meet Phillip Hannon, 2011 graduate of Ohio Media School, formally Ohio Center for Broadcasting, currently working as Operations Manager in Monroe, Louisiana. Phil always knew whether it was behind a mixing board or on the mic that radio was his calling and passion. Now he’s “living the dream” while serving and creating an impact for God.While a student. Phil gained hands-on experience as an intern at WLKR/WKFM in Milan, Ohio and at graduation, he began his career at iHeartMedia, working promotions for all six stations in the Cleveland cluster. Landing an opportunity with Salem Media Group, Phil spent the next nine years in various roles and worked his way up to Assistant Program Director and Morning Show Producer. During that time, he also paid it forward as an instructor at Ohio Media School, Cleveland Campus.About a year ago, Phil was recruited for a radio ministry in Monroe, Louisiana. A two-station cluster, Phil is enjoying small-town living and the additional responsibility as Operations Manager at Media Ministries. Phil oversees the contemporary Christian music station 88.7 The Cross, and the Christian Hip-Hop and R&B station Power 92.7. Responsible for the technology and IT, Phil takes great pride in ensuring that the listeners receive the best audio experience possible while also keeping both stations in FCC compliance. In Phil’s words, “I am grateful to Ohio Media School for what I learned when I was a student. My advice to current and future students is to make sure to network and take advantage of the hours you need to put into internship. Learn everything you can from the professionals that are in the business. They will teach you a lot and provide you with real-world experience.”

“Get creative and look outside of the box when looking for work.” Jennifer LaubachMeet Jennifer Laubach, 2015 graduate of Ohio Media School, formally Ohio Center for Broadcasting. Jen has built a career as Copy Writer/Copy Editor and Marketing Specialist, with a focus on branding and social media. An original member of our Beonair Network of Media Schools National Branding Team, Jen started her career in film as a PA for feature films and acting. She then became Social Media/ Webpage Planner at iHeartRadio and moved up to Marketing Director at Cincinnati Circus Company. Currently working as a copy editor and marketing specialist for authors at small publishing houses, Jen uses her skills from OMS to help others succeed. Jen is also works as a Digital Marketing Specialist with the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA).With a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Jen enrolled at Ohio Media School because she wanted a career that required additional hands-on training. She uses her skills daily to teach current students at OMS so they can achieve their dreams as well. Originally thinking she would use her newly acquired skills to pursue an on-air career, she discovered that what she truly enjoyed was being behind the scenes. Her skills have served her well as she continues to level up her own business and those of others.Jen advises our newer students, “Get an internship outside of the school where people in the community can vouch for your character and experience.”And to soon-to-be graduates, “Get creative and look outside of the box when looking for work. You may not get your dream job right away, but media jobs are always available. I got my first job by mailing my resume and cover letter to an employer in a shoe box stating I wanted to get my foot in the door.”
Please join us in wishing Jen continued success. As an alumnus, she has supported many of our graduates in employment at Cincinnati Circus Company and provided other great connections. Paying it forward, we greatly appreciate Jen’s continued engagement with Ohio Media School.

Reel in the Dream Job: 5 Tips for Demo Reel Development
As an aspiring media professional, you need a killer demo reel to showcase your skills and impress potential employers. In this article, I’ll review some tried and true tips and tricks for demo reel development that will help you crush that interview and turn your media dreams into a reality.
Determine your goals and target audience
Before you can start working on your demo reel, you need to know what you’re trying to achieve. What kind of job are you looking for? What skills are required for that position? What type of content does your target audience respond to? Once you have a clear understanding of what you’re aiming for, you can tailor your demo reel to meet those goals. And don’t forget, your reel is for your audience, not for you. Make sure you focus on highlighting the skills that your target employer is looking for.
Keep it short and sweet
Your demo reel is not the time to show off every project you’ve ever worked on. Most employers only have a few minutes to review each reel, so make sure you’re presenting your best work in the most compelling way possible. Keep your reel concise and engaging, and use your strongest projects to make a lasting impression.
Tailor the format to your content
Not all content is created equal. Some projects may lend themselves better to a montage-style reel, while others may benefit from a more narrative-driven approach. Consider the style and tone of your content, and choose a format that suits it best. Remember, the format should always serve the content, not the other way around.
Pay attention to audio and visual quality
This one may seem obvious, but it’s worth mentioning. No matter how good your content is, if it’s not presented in the best quality possible, it won’t have the same impact. Make sure your audio and visual elements are crisp and clear. If you’re showcasing a video project, make sure the color grading and editing are polished. If your audio quality is lacking, invest in some quality equipment or seek out professional help.
Highlight your unique skills and perspective
Finally, don’t be afraid to infuse your own unique style and personality into your demo reel. While showcasing your technical skills is important, employers are looking for more than just technical prowess. They want to see what makes you stand out from the crowd. Use your demo reel as an opportunity to show off your creativity and perspective, and don’t be afraid to take some risks.
Crafting a killer demo reel is no easy feat, but it’s an essential part of landing a job in the media industry. By determining your goals, tailoring your reel to your content, and highlighting your unique skills and style, you can create a demo reel that will set you apart from the competition. Keep these tips in mind and keep practicing, and before you know it, you’ll be reeling in that dream job.
Wishing you the best!
