Brandon Launerts of NBC 6 visits Miami Media School
Brandon Launerts, Social Media Producer for NBC 6 South Florida, visited with students from Miami Media School on February 11. As Social Media Producer, Brandon oversees the social media pages for the station across various platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. He also writes unique online content for the station web site.
Having started his career with NBC as an intern, Brandon quickly rose through the ranks at the station soon after he was hired as an editor. On one evening in particular, Brandon was filling in for another editor, when the news broke that George Zimmerman had been arrested. It was Brandon’s quick thinking and superior skills that helped him edit the 11pm newscast that night. It was that newscast and the team from NBC 6 who was selected to receive a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award including Brandon.
Winning his first Emmy at age 20, was a huge accomplishment for Brandon. Soon after, he was promoted to Social Media Producer, where he helped create the Instagram account for NBC 6. His passion for social media showed even during his time as an editor and the team at NBC took notice.
In his current role, Brandon has worked closely with the “TODAY” show’s social media team while on location in Miami. He has also written numerous stories for NBC6.com and has interviewed celebrities including Flo Rida, Dwyane Wade and Austin Mahone.
During his visit to MMS, Brandon shared his unique story with students, offered key insights into the broadcast field and took time to answer questions.
Miami Media School thanks Brandon Launerts for giving his time to meet with our students.
